Executive & Council of National Representatives Meetings - October 2004

A great deal of progress was made at the recently held Executive Board and CNR meetings. Minutes and the summary notes will soon be available on the website www.ifpn.org.uk

On- line Journal – We are delighted to announce the Editor of the on-line Journal will be Kathryn Schroeter formerly editor of Surgical Services Management. Plans are moving on so that we hope to have published the first volume by the end of this year. Advertising for the first journal is being sought with the assistance of Fitwise, a company specializing in selling advertising space in healthcare journals.
Commissions will be made for the first volume, but in addition, all CNR members are invited to provide a short profile (600 words) of their organization, to share with their colleagues around the world.

PNG Project - Papua New Guinea Perioperative Nurses Association are going to launch their Association, November 12 2004. J&J Australia have kindly agreed to support an IFPN Project visit to coincide with the launch, and enable Phyllis Davis and Sue Resnick to deliver an Infection Control Workshop in Port Moresby.

IFPN/AORN Pre-Congress Seminar will be held in New Orleans. Theme is Terrorism- Global Nursing Perspectives. 2 April 05. The programme is being developed currently. NATN have invited IFPN to provide an international perspective to a Pre-Congress Study Day to be held in Harrogate, October 2005.

AORN are to hold a Pan – Americas conference 12-14 November 04. “Hands across the Borders” in Panama will explore critical patient care issues. IFPN will be represented by Secretary Allen.

EORNA. A meeting was held with President Junttila during NATN Congress. Plans for joint initiatives are being presented to EORNA Board of Directors in Madrid. November 12/13.

World Congress- Barcelona Spain. CNR are asked to discuss with their organizations and find ‘hot topics’ for the networking sessions.
International Forum is once again on the programme, and CNR may like to make suggestions for content, in this prime education session of World Congress. Suggestions for topics to Sheila Allen please.

Guidelines – new guideline published in October 04! The guideline for Sponge, Sharps and Instruments was published with an educational grant kindly given by Venon Carus during NATN. All guidelines are soon to be available from the website as a free download.

Board elections
Elections were held during CNR meeting October 04 and new Board positions of Vice President, and two Board Members are announced. Gracious thanks are given to James Harrison who stepped down due to work commitments and Brenda Ulmer who finished her term of office as Vice President. New Board members are warmly welcomed.
